poetry: words that fit.

Home Musings poetry: words that fit.

They are too young,
most of them. mere pawns,
pieces in someone else’s puzzle
innocent and unaware
of the truth of war.

They are too young,
most of them. mere fawns,
fodder for the end of a muzzle
infuriated and overwhelmed
by the truth of war.

I have looked into the eyes of men
and women with nothing to lose
save themselves

I have looked into the eyes of men
and women with nothing to gain
save themselves

I have looked into the eyes of men
and women with nothing
save themselves

What will we tell our children
of this time – who will tell the tale –
how will we speak of it – what words, if any
could possibly fit

Anguish. Desperation.
Frustration. Anticipation. Reminiscent.
Fated to fail. A campaign for the pockets of few.
A campaign for the destruction of many.

Slaughtered. Splintered. Misunderstood.
Misguided. Misinformed. Mistaken blood for
dollars, we were. an unorganized
Machine of spare parts and ideas.

A kingdom for chaos and lawlessness
May the best man win, but
I have learned
That I am/was not made for this.

I have looked into the eyes of men
and women with nothing to lose
save themselves

I have looked into the eyes of men
and women with nothing to gain
save themselves

I have looked into the eyes of men
and women with nothing
save themselves

The children have not yet wrapped
their minds around the concept of war
I’ve been in one and have not yet wrapped
my mind around the concept of war

They are trapped
most of them, within the confines of this war
defined by the syllables of hate heard falling
like prayers from the very lips of this war

They are trapped
most of them, within the cages of the mind’s war
unrefined in the sound of tomorrow’s calling
like such silence echoed following the destruction of war

We are trapped
most of us, within a war
that’s about so much more
than ideological terrorism.
